Slug Juice and Ranting

It has been suggested that my blog should be more about the minutiae of life, the inanities of everyday living so erm, I'm going to try it today...

Umm...

I had my first can of full fat Pepsi in over 5 years this morning. Yuck. How did I ever drink that gloopy, syrupy, weird flavoured stuff? It was like drinking sweetened slug juice. And before you say it, no my mistake wasn't having Pepsi and that Coke is better because you're wrong. Stop - you just are. Stop talking. Who's blog is this? Thank you. The strange thing is I'm still more than happy to drink Diet Pepsi but apart from it being less sweet I can't really explain why because it still tastes of artificially sweetened boiled up beetle shells. I only drank it because the pizza man brought if free the other night and I didn't want to waste it. Never mind, it'll be the last one for a while.

I found myself getting annoyed at the stupidity and ignorance of people this week. When I say people I don't mean any particular group of people, I mean all of us, humans in general. We're an absolute bunch of pricks. The people who know me best know that actually this isn't surprising, I have a very low opinion of the human race anyway but whatever it was that got me thinking about it I ended up thinking about how we all act surprised when the general public shows its true colours. We all know that we're bunch of dicks so why do we put on this pretense that we're not like that? The best example of this is Internet comment sections. Why is it surprising that the bottom of the Internet always ends degenerating into name calling? If you give everyone in the developed world access to a place to air their views of course most of them are going to show themselves to be under-educated, uninformed morons.

I've actually just remembered what got me thinking about this, and it was a little more serious than I thought. I heard a news item about the new law that bans revenge porn. In my opinion it's about time a law like this came in as its such a horrendous thing to do, but what got to me was that during the piece both the news presenter and the two "experts" he was discussing it with we're talking and acting like the whole phenomenon was a surprise. How? The fact is that huge numbers of people have absolutely no empathy. Vast numbers of people don't seem to be able to stop and think "How would I feel if someone did what I'm about to do, to me?" Put into that context is it surprising that we've had to bring in a law to ban revenge porn? Of course it's not. The world is full of people who can't see beyond their little bubble, can't and don't try to see any bigger picture or see things from other points of view. The Internet has just made this more obvious. I have no answer, no solution, just I wish people would stop acting surprised by it.

Well that suddenly became more serious than I intended. Oh well. By the way, just to give you advanced warning there will be a #sundaycider tonight - the fist one for a long time.
